Jalapeño Poppers

Buttermilk Sauce

Method

Preparing the Jalapeños

  1. 1

    Prepare Jalapeños

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the jalapeños in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membranes for less heat if desired.

  2. 2

    Make the Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, shredded jack cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Stuff the Jalapeños

Using a spoon or a piping bag, fill each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture, packing it in generously.

Breading and Frying

  1. 4

    Prepare for Breading

Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.

  2. 5

    Bread the Jalapeños

Dip each stuffed jalapeño in flour, then in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Ensure they are evenly coated.

  3. 6

    Fry the Jalapeños

Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded jalapeños in batches and fry until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.

Making the Buttermilk Sauce

  1. 7

    Combine Sauce Ingredients

In a bowl, mix buttermilk, mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, and chopped chives until smooth and well combined.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Plate the fried jalapeño poppers and serve with the buttermilk sauce on the side for dipping.
