Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Slowly whisk in the milk, making sure to eliminate any lumps. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheeses

Reduce the heat to low, then add the shredded cheddar cheese and cream cheese. Stir until fully melted and smooth.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Stir in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to combine.

Combining and Baking

  1. 6

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.

  2. 7

    Prepare Breadcrumb Topping

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and melted butter. Mix until the breadcrumbs are well-coated.

  3. 8

    Assemble the Dish

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb topping over the mac and cheese.

  4. 9

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
