Method
Cake Directions
- 1
Prepare the Oven and Pans
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- 3
Combine Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and stout beer until well combined.
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Ganache Directions
- 7
Heat the Cream
In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer.
- 8
Melt the Chocolate
Remove the saucepan from heat and pour the hot cream over the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- 9
Stir Until Smooth
After 5 minutes, stir the mixture until the chocolate is fully melted and the ganache is smooth. Let it cool slightly.
Cream Cheese Frosting Directions
- 10
Beat the Cream Cheese and Butter
In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and unsalted butter together until smooth and creamy.
- 11
Add Sugar and Vanilla
Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined and fluffy.
Assembly Directions
- 12
Layer the Cakes
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top.
- 13
Add Ganache
Pour a portion of the ganache over the frosting layer and spread it evenly.
- 14
Finish the Cake
Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the frosting and ganache layers. Decorate the top with any remaining ganache.
- 15
Serve
Slice the cake and serve at room temperature. Enjoy your Chocolate Stout Cake!
