Cooking the Pasta

Boil Water
Fill a large pot with water and add 1 tsp of salt. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.

Cook the Pasta
Once the water is boiling, add the fettuccine or spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta in a colander.
Making the Butter Sauce

Melt the Butter
In the same pot used for the pasta (or a separate saucepan), melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat.

Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained pasta to the butter sauce, tossing to coat the noodles evenly. If the mixture seems dry, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until you reach desired consistency.

Finish with Cheese and Parsley
Remove the pot from heat and stir in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley until well combined.
