Method

Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pie Crust

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut the unsalted butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough holds together. Do not overmix.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

After chilling, roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place the rolled dough into the dish and trim the edges.

  5. 5

    Pre-bake the Crust

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork and bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden. Let it cool before adding the filling.

Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare the Strawberries

Wash and hull the fresh strawberries. Cut them in half or leave them whole, depending on your preference.

  2. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the strawberries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Mix gently to coat the strawberries evenly.

  3. 8

    Fill the Crust

Pour the strawberry mixture into the cooled pie crust. Dot the filling with butter.

Baking

  1. 9

    Bake the Pie

Bake the pie in the preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and the strawberries are tender.

  2. 10

    Cool the Pie

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Serving

  1. 11

    Serve the Pie

Slice the pie and serve with whipped cream on top, if desired.
