Method

Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pie Crust

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough holds together. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to fit your pie pan. Carefully place the crust into the pan, trimming any excess dough hanging over the edges.

Filling Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Filling

In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, cherries, pecan halves, chocolate chips, and coconut cream. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, eggs, lemon juice, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the mixture over the fruit and nuts, stirring gently to combine.

  2. 4

    Fill the Crust

Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

Topping Preparation

  1. 5

    Make Meringue

In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and cream of tartar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.

  2. 6

    Top the Pie

Spread the meringue over the filling, making sure to seal the edges to prevent shrinking. Use a spatula to create peaks for a decorative effect.

Baking

  1. 7

    Bake the Pie

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the pie for 30-35 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown. Let it cool completely before serving.
