In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, diced celery, and potatoes. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Add Broth and Clams
Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Add the chopped clams, salt, pepper, and thyme. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.

Finish with Milk
Stir in the milk and continue to heat until warmed through, about 5 minutes. Do not boil. Adjust seasoning to taste.
