Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Oil

Drain the spaghetti in a colander and return it to the pot. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and toss to coat.

Making Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat a splash of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring frequently.

  3. 6

    Cook Ground Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Mix well.

  5. 8

    Season the Sauce

Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  6. 9

    Simmer

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. 10

    Serve

Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
