Method

Cake Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture, until just combined.

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool Cakes

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Beat the Butter

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Cream

Gradually add in the powdered sugar and heavy cream, beating on medium speed until fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second cake layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake.

Decoration (optional)

  1. 11

    Add Decorations

If desired, top the frosted cake with fresh berries and chocolate shavings for an added touch.
