In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the tapioca pearls and cook according to package instructions, usually about 5-10 minutes until they become translucent and chewy. Stir occasionally.

Prepare the Brown Sugar Syrup
In a separate saucepan, combine 1 cup of brown sugar with 1/2 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Brew the Black Tea
In another pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the black tea leaves or tea bags and steep for about 5 minutes. Remove the tea leaves/bags and let it cool slightly.
