Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the medium onion into thin strips. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beef

In a skillet over medium-high heat, season the pound of ground beef with salt and black pepper. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat and set aside.

Sautéing the Onions

  1. 3

    Sauté the Onions

In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.

Assembling the Patty Melt

  1. 4

    Layer the Ingredients

On two slices of marble rye bread, layer half of the cooked ground beef, followed by half of the sautéed onions, and then place a slice of Swiss cheese on top. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.

Grilling the Patty Melt

  1. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

Heat a clean skillet or griddle over medium heat. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter and place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted. Add more butter as needed while grilling.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve

Remove the patty melt from the skillet, let it cool for a minute, then cut in half and serve hot.
