Calamari

Method

Preparing the Calamari

  1. 1

    Clean and Slice Calamari

If using whole calamari, clean and slice it into rings. If using pre-cut calamari rings, rinse them under cold water.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Frying the Calamari

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Bread the Calamari

Take a few calamari rings at a time, coat them in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour.

  3. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully place the breaded calamari rings into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pot.

  4. 6

    Drain the Calamari

Use a slotted spoon to remove the calamari from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Making the Spicy Aioli

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced garlic, sriracha sauce, lemon juice, and salt to taste.

  2. 8

    Mix Until Smooth

Whisk the ingredients together until smooth and well combined. Adjust the seasoning as needed.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Calamari

Arrange the crispy calamari on a serving platter.

  2. 10

    Garnish

Serve with lemon wedges and sprinkle chopped parsley on top. Serve the spicy aioli on the side for dipping.
