Pretzel Dough

Baking Soda Bath

Method

Pretzel Dough Preparation

1

Activate Yeast

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

2

Mix Dough

Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

3

Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Cheddar Filling Preparation

4

Mix Filling Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine sharp cheddar cheese, cream cheese, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined and set aside.

Forming Pretzels

5

Shape Pretzels

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 24 inches) and form into a pretzel shape, leaving a space in the center for the filling.

6

Add Filling

Place a spoonful of the cheddar filling in the center of each pretzel shape. Fold the ends over the filling and pinch to seal.

Baking Soda Bath

7

Prepare Bath

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the baking soda carefully.

8

Dip Pretzels

Carefully dip each pretzel into the baking soda bath for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Baking

9

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

10

Add Toppings

Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

11

Bake Pretzels

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
