Pizza Dough and Toppings

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a small bowl, dissolve active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Pizza

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12-inch circle. Place the dough on a baking sheet or pizza peel. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Tear mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly on top. Add fresh basil leaves.

  5. 5

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully transfer the pizza to the oven (on the stone or baking sheet). Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. Remove from oven and sprinkle with black pepper.

  6. 6

    Serve

Let the pizza cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot with additional fresh basil if desired.
