Batter

For Frying

Dipping Sauce (optional)

Method

Prepare the Batter

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of cornstarch, 1 tsp of baking powder, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of garlic powder, and 1 tsp of black pepper. Whisk the dry ingredients together until well combined.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 1 cup of milk, and 2 tbs of vegetable oil. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth batter forms. Ensure there are no lumps.

Fry the O-Rings

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or a heavy pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.

  2. 4

    Coat and Fry

Using a ring mold or a piping bag, pipe the batter into the hot oil in circular shapes, creating O-rings. Fry in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  3. 5

    Drain Excess Oil

Once golden, remove the O-rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat the process until all the batter is used.

Prepare Dipping Sauce

  1. 6

    Mix Sauce Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise, 1 cup of ketchup, and 2 tbs of hot sauce. Mix well until smooth. Adjust seasoning or add more hot sauce to taste.
