Method
Preparation
- 1
Preparing the Steak
Take the filet mignon steaks out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps them cook more evenly.
- 2
Cooking
- 3
Heating the Pan
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
- 4
Searing the Steaks
Add the seasoned filet mignon steaks to the hot skillet. Sear for 4-5 minutes on the first side without moving them, until a nice crust forms.
- 5
- 6
Basting
While the steaks are cooking, use a spoon to baste the butter over the steaks for enhanced flavor.
Resting
- 7
Letting the Steaks Rest
Remove the filet mignon from the skillet and place them on a cutting board. Cover loosely with aluminum foil and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute.
