Method

Cake Preparation

1

Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

2

Melt chocolate and butter

In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring until smooth.

3

Mix sugar and eggs

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and eggs until the mixture is pale and fluffy.

4

Combine mixtures

Slowly pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg mixture, stirring continuously to combine.

5

Add vanilla and dry ingredients

Stir in the vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt until just combined.

6

Bake the cake

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cake has set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

7

Cool and serve

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
