Prepare the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth.

Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Fish
Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Fry the Potatoes
In a separate pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato strips in batches for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt immediately.

Mix the Coleslaw
In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Toss well to combine and refrigerate until serving.
