Cooking the Meat

Rub the pork shoulder or beef brisket with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and liquid smoke. Ensure the meat is evenly coated.

Place the seasoned meat in a slow cooker. Pour in the BBQ sauce and cover. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours until the meat is tender and easily shredded.

Once cooked, remove the meat from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Mix the shredded meat with the remaining sauce in the slow cooker.
