Method

Prepare the Ribs

  1. 1

    Marinate the Ribs

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, minced garlic, diced jalapeño, salt, and black pepper. Add the pork ribs, ensuring they are completely submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Make the BBQ Sauce

  1. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the bourbon, cola, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

  2. 3

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare for Frying

  1. 4

    Prepare the Coating

In a shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour and cornstarch. Remove the marinated ribs from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge them in the flour mixture until fully coated.

Fry the Ribs

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Ribs

Carefully add the coated ribs to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).

  3. 7

Drain and Coat with BBQ Sauce

Once fried, transfer the ribs to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Brush the ribs generously with the bourbon-cola BBQ sauce before serving.
