Method
Bread Pudding Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Bread
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the stale French bread into cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- 2
Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Pour the milk mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all the bread is soaked. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes to absorb the liquid.
- 4
Bake the Bread Pudding
Transfer the soaked bread mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
Caramelized Bananas Preparation
- 5
Slice the Bananas
While the bread pudding is baking, slice the ripe bananas into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
- 6
Make the Caramel Sauce
In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Add the sliced bananas and cook for about 3-5 minutes, stirring gently until the bananas are caramelized.
- 7
Add Bourbon
Remove the skillet from heat and carefully add the bourbon. Return to the heat and cook for an additional minute, allowing the alcohol to cook off and the sauce to thicken slightly.
Serving
- 8
Serve the Dish
Spoon the warm bread pudding into serving bowls, top with the caramelized bananas and sauce, and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
