Calamari

Dipping Sauces

Method

Preparing the Calamari

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Mix the Coating

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Coat the Calamari

Toss the calamari rings in the flour mixture until evenly coated.

Cooking the Calamari

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or a deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Fry the coated calamari rings in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Preparing the Vegetables

  1. 6

    Prepare the Artichoke Hearts

If using canned or jarred artichoke hearts, drain and chop them into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Green Beans

If using fresh green beans, trim the ends and blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp. If using frozen, simply thaw them.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

On a serving platter, arrange the fried calamari, chopped artichoke hearts, and green beans.

  2. 9

    Serve with Dipping Sauces

Serve the dish with bowls of spicy aioli and cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
