Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brisket

Pat the beef brisket dry with paper towels and trim excess fat, leaving about 1/4 inch of fat on the meat for flavor.

  2. 2

    Make the Rub

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, cumin, and chili powder to create a dry rub. Rub this mixture generously all over the brisket.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sear the Brisket

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the brisket and sear on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.

  2. 4

    Add Onions and Garlic

Remove the brisket from the skillet and place it in a slow cooker. In the same skillet, add the chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing until softened, about 5 minutes. Pour this mixture over the brisket.

  3. 5

    Add Broth

Pour the beef broth over the brisket and onions in the slow cooker.

  4. 6

    Cook the Brisket

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.

  5. 7

    Rest and Slice

Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing against the grain.
