Method

Biscuits

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add 0.5 cups of cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes, to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Buttermilk

Pour in 3 tablespoons of buttermilk and mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

  6. 6

    Bake Biscuits

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Gravy

  1. 7

    Cook Sausage

In a large skillet, cook 1 pound of ground sausage over medium heat until it is browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.

  2. 8

    Add Flour

Sprinkle 0.25 cups of all-purpose flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.

  3. 9

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. This should take about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 10

    Season Gravy

Add 1 teaspoon of black pepper and salt to taste, mixing well. Remove from heat.

Toppings

  1. 11

    Prepare Butter and Jam

Melt 0.25 cups of unsalted butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Serve the melted butter alongside 0.5 cups of your favorite jam.
