Pretzel Dough

Method

Pretzel Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a large bowl, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

Add all-purpose flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape Pretzels

Once risen, punch down the dough, divide it into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel form.

Beer Cheese Preparation

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the shredded sharp cheddar cheese, softened cream cheese, beer, garlic powder, onion powder, hot sauce, and black pepper.

  2. 7

    Mix Until Smooth

Using a whisk or electric mixer, blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning as needed.

Final Steps

  1. 8

    Boil Pretzels

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.

  2. 9

    Bake Pretzels

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Place the boiled pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, sprinkle with coarse sea salt, and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

  3. 10

    Serve

Let pretzels cool for a few minutes before serving with the prepared beer cheese.
