Sandwich Assembly

Method

Prepare the Haddock

  1. 1

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Slowly add the beer while whisking until the batter is smooth and has no lumps.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

  3. 3

    Batter the Haddock

Dip each haddock fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off before carefully placing it into the hot oil.

  4. 4

    Fry the Haddock

Fry the fillets for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Make the Tartar Sauce

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, lemon juice, and capers. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir until well combined.

Assemble the Sandwich

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the sandwich buns lightly if desired.

  2. 7

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a piece of the fried haddock. Add a generous spoonful of tartar sauce on top of the fish, followed by a slice of tomato.

  3. 8

    Close the Sandwich

Top with the other half of the bun. Serve immediately.
