Mussels

Method

Prepare the Mussels

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the mussels under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any dirt or debris. Remove any beards (the fibrous strands) that may be attached.

  2. 2

    Cook the Mussels

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the mussels, anise liqueur, salt, and pepper. Cover and steam the mussels for about 5-7 minutes or until they have opened up.

  3. 3

    Add Fresh Parsley

Once cooked, sprinkle chopped parsley over the mussels and stir gently.

Make Salsa Brava

  1. 4

    Mix the Ingredients

In a small saucepan, combine tomato sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili flakes, olive oil, and salt. Bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes.

Prepare Grilled Bread

  1. 5

    Grill the Bread

Slice the crusty bread and brush both sides with olive oil. Grill on a preheated grill or grill pan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until toasted and golden.

Serve

  1. 6

    Plate the Dish

Serve the steamed mussels in a bowl with salsa brava on the side and grilled bread for dipping.
