Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Make Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth and has a thick consistency.

  3. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off.

  5. 5

    Fry the Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the onion rings warm, optionally with dipping sauces.
