Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Prime Rib
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Pat the prime rib roast dry with paper towels and place it on a roasting rack in a roasting pan.
- 2
Season the Meat
In a small bowl, mix together the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, olive oil, rosemary, and thyme. Rub this mixture all over the prime rib, ensuring it is evenly coated.
- 3
Roast the Prime Rib
Place the roasting pan in the preheated oven and roast for 20 minutes. Then, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting for about 60-75 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (125°F/52°C for rare, 135°F/57°C for medium-rare).
- 4
Rest the Meat
Once the prime rib reaches your desired temperature, remove it from the oven and cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Let it rest for at least 20 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
- 5
Make Gravy (Optional)
While the meat is resting, pour the beef broth into the roasting pan and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom. Simmer over medium heat for about 5 minutes, then strain if desired.
- 6
Slice and Serve
After resting, slice the prime rib into desired thickness and serve with the optional gravy on the side.
