Pasta Preparation

Cook the Elbow Macaroni
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Cheddar Sauce Preparation

Make the Cheddar Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Gradually whisk in the milk and bring to a simmer. Cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
Combine and Bake

Combine Pasta and Sauce
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and cheddar sauce. Mix well until the pasta is evenly coated.

Prepare Crispy Cheddar Crumbs
In a separate bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs, grated cheddar cheese, and melted butter until combined.

Assemble and Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the macaroni and cheddar mixture into a greased baking dish. Top with the crispy cheddar crumbs. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
