Method
Preparing the Sticky Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the glutinous rice in a bowl and rinse it under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain the rice.
- 2
Soak the Rice
Add 1.5 cups of water to the rinsed rice in a bowl and let it soak for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
- 3
Steam the Rice
After soaking, drain the rice and transfer it to a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth. Steam over boiling water for about 20-25 minutes until the rice is cooked and sticky.
Making the Coconut Sauce
- 4
Combine Ingredients
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- 5
Heat the Sauce
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves. Do not bring to a boil.
Assembling the Dish
- 6
Serve the Sticky Rice
Spoon the warm sticky rice onto a serving plate.
- 7
Add Coconut Sauce
Drizzle a portion of the coconut sauce over the sticky rice.
- 8
Prepare the Mango
Peel and slice the ripe mangoes into thin pieces.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Arrange the mango slices next to the sticky rice, drizzle more coconut sauce on top, and sprinkle with sesame seeds or mung beans if using. Serve immediately.
