Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾ inch thick. Use your thumb to create a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

  2. 4

    Add Cheese (optional)

If using cheddar cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking. Cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Prepare Toppings

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce leaves and slice the tomato and onion into rings.

  2. 6

    Assemble

Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster. Place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, onion rings, and any additional toppings you desire. Add the top half of the bun.
