Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel 4 cups of Russet potatoes using a vegetable peeler. Cut the potatoes into evenly sized strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick, to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and aids in achieving crispy fries.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large heavy-bottomed pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Fry the Potatoes

Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry with a paper towel. Carefully add the potatoes to the hot oil in batches, being cautious to avoid splatters. Fry for about 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 5

    Drain Excess Oil

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of paprika. Toss gently to distribute the seasoning evenly.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Hot

Serve the fries hot, either as a side dish or a snack. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces!
