Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps in achieving fluffy rice.

  2. 2

    Soak the Rice

Soak the rinsed rice in water for about 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  3. 3

    Heat Ghee/Oil

In a heavy-bottomed pot, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.

  4. 4

    Add Spices

Add the bay leaf, cloves, and cardamom pods to the pot. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  5. 5

    Add Rice

Add the soaked and drained rice to the pot. Stir gently to coat the rice in the ghee and spices.

  6. 6

    Add Water and Salt

Pour in the water and add salt. Stir to combine.

  7. 7

    Cook the Rice

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.

  8. 8

    Fluff and Garnish

Once cooked, remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves before serving.
