Method

Fish Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Tilapia

Rinse the tilapia fillets under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Allow them to marinate for about 15 minutes.

Breading

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In three separate bowls, set up your breading station. In the first bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and water. In the third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and paprika.

  2. 3

    Bread the Tilapia

Take each marinated tilapia fillet and first dredge it in the flour, making sure to coat it evenly. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, then coat it with the panko breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat this for all fillets.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it bubbles and turns golden, it’s ready.

  2. 5

    Fry the Tilapia

Carefully place the breaded tilapia fillets into the hot oil, cooking them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fillets and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Broccoli

  1. 6

    Cook the Broccoli

In a pot of boiling salted water, add the broccoli florets and cook for about 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and toss with olive oil and salt to taste.
