Filling and Batter
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Poblanos
Roast the poblano peppers over an open flame or in a broiler until the skin is charred. Place them in a plastic bag for about 10 minutes to steam, then peel off the skin. Cut a slit in each pepper and remove the seeds.
- 2
Stuff the Peppers
Fill each pepper with vegan cheese, making sure to stuff them well but not overfill.
- 3
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the plant-based milk until a smooth batter forms.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the oil on medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Stuffed Peppers
Dip each stuffed poblano into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Carefully place it in the hot oil. Fry each pepper for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the V-RELLENO burritos hot with your choice of dipping sauce or salsa.
