Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Slowly stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 6

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, beating until well combined and creamy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 7

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  3. 8

    Serve

Slice the cake into pieces and serve. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake!
