Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water, add a generous amount of salt, and bring to a rolling boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Reserve Pasta Water

Before draining the spaghetti, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta cooking water.

  4. 4

    Drain Pasta

Drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Sauce

  1. 5

    Prepare Garlic

    Thinly slice the garlic cloves.

  2. 6

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

  3. 7

    Sauté Garlic

Add the sliced garlic to the skillet and sauté until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.

  4. 8

    Add Red Pepper Flakes

Stir in the red pepper flakes and cook for an additional 30 seconds to infuse the oil.

  5. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet, tossing to coat in the garlic oil. If the pasta seems dry, add a little reserved pasta water.

  6. 10

    Season with Salt

Season with salt to taste and toss again to combine.

  7. 11

    Add Parsley

Finely chop the parsley and sprinkle it over the spaghetti, tossing to mix it in.

Serving

  1. 12

    Plate the Dish

Divide the spaghetti among serving plates.

  2. 13

    Garnish with Parmesan

Grate the Parmesan cheese over the top of each serving before serving.

  3. 14

    Enjoy!

    Serve immediately while hot.
