Method

Waffle Preparation

1

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

2

Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, vegetable oil, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until smooth.

3

Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; some lumps are okay.

4

Preheat Waffle Iron

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

5

Cook Waffles

Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or oil. Pour the appropriate amount of batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 5 minutes or until the waffles are crispy and cooked through.

6

Serve

Once cooked, carefully remove the waffles and keep them warm while you prepare the remaining waffles.

Cream Cheese Icing Preparation

7

Prepare Icing

In a medium mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and unsalted butter together until creamy and smooth.

8

Add Sugar and Flavor

Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well blended. Then add the vanilla extract and milk, mixing until you achieve a smooth and drizzle-able consistency.

9

Drizzle Over Waffles

Once the waffles are ready, drizzle the cream cheese icing over the top before serving.
