Method

Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pie Crust

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Combine with Water

Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

Once chilled, roll the dough out on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Transfer the dough to the pan and trim the edges. Poke holes in the bottom with a fork and chill again for 15 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Melt the Chocolate

In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and heavy cream. Melt over a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly.

  2. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.

  3. 7

    Mix Chocolate Mixture

Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to prevent curdling.

  4. 8

    Add Walnuts

Fold in the chopped walnuts into the chocolate filling mixture.

Baking

  1. 9

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 10

    Assemble the Pie

Pour the filling mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

  3. 11

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the filling is set. The center may still be slightly wobbly.

  4. 12

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and allow to cool to room temperature. Serve the pie as is or with whipped cream on top.
