Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, combine the cocoa powder and unsalted butter. Beat until smooth and creamy.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, mixing on low speed until combined. Then increase to medium speed and beat until fluffy. Add vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  4. 10

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake!
