Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Wash the heirloom tomatoes thoroughly. Cut them into halves or quarters, depending on their size. Arrange them on a serving plate.

  2. 2

    Make the Pangrattato

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the bread crumbs and sauté until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper. Remove from heat and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Tonnato Sauce

If using store-bought tonnato sauce, skip this step. To make your own, blend together canned tuna, mayonnaise, capers, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt until smooth.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Dish

Drizzle the tonnato sauce over the tomatoes. Scatter the caper leaves and fresh basil on top. Finish with the crispy pangrattato for added texture.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve immediately as an appetizer or side dish. Enjoy!
