Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the creste di gallo pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Onions and Prosciutto

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped sweet onions and sauté until they are translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the diced prosciutto and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until slightly crispy.

  3. 3

    Make the Cheese Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the milk. Gradually add the fontina and parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until melted and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  4. 4

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked pasta to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more milk to reach desired consistency.

  5. 5

    Add Toasted Breadcrumbs

Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish. Sprinkle the toasted breadcrumbs evenly on top.

  6. 6

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
