Naan Ingredients

Method

Naan Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yogurt, olive oil, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Naan

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval or round shape with a rolling pin.

  6. 6

    Cook the Naan

Preheat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 1-2 minutes on each side until bubbly and golden brown. Optionally, brush with melted butter or garlic butter while hot.

  7. 7

    Garnish and Serve

If desired, sprinkle with chopped cilantro before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite curry or dip.
