Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for 30 minutes, then drain.

  2. 2

    Heat the Ghee/Oil

In a large pot, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.

  3. 3

    Add Whole Spices

Add the bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, and cardamom pods to the pot. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.

  4. 4

    Cook the Rice

Add the soaked and drained rice to the pot. Stir gently to coat the rice with the spices. Add water and salt, bringing it to a boil.

  5. 5

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.

  6. 6

    Fluff and Garnish

Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
