Method
Making the Dough
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water while kneading the dough until it becomes soft and pliable. Add the oil and knead for another 2-3 minutes. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Baking the Roti
- 2
Shape the Roti
After the dough has rested, divide it into equal portions (about 8-10 balls). Dust each ball with a little flour, and using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a flat circle about 6-8 inches in diameter.
- 3
Preheat the Tandoor
If using a traditional tandoor, preheat it according to the manufacturer's instructions until it is very hot. If using an oven, preheat it to the highest setting (around 500°F or 260°C).
- 4
Bake the Roti
Carefully place the rolled roti onto the inner walls of the tandoor or onto a baking tray in the oven. Cook until the roti puffs up and gets a nice golden-brown color, about 2-3 minutes. If using a tandoor, you may need to turn it for even cooking.
