Method
Prepare the Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Topping

- 6
Bake the Naan
- 7
Preheat Tandoor or Oven
Preheat your tandoor or oven to the highest setting (around 500°F or 260°C). If using an oven, place a baking stone or inverted baking sheet inside to heat.
- 8
Shape the Naan
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions (about 6-8). Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval shape using a rolling pin.
- 9
Add Topping and Bake
Spread a portion of the caramelized onion mixture over each rolled naan. If using a tandoor, stick the naan to the walls of the tandoor. If using an oven, place them on the preheated baking stone or sheet. Bake for about 3-5 minutes until puffed and golden.
