Method

Prepare the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling

  1. 6

    Chop Vegetables

Finely chop the onion and green chilies. If you prefer less heat, remove the seeds from the chilies.

  2. 7

    Mix Filling

In a bowl, combine the chopped onion, green chilies, and fresh coriander leaves. Mix well.

Assemble the Naan

  1. 8

    Divide the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal-sized balls (about 6).

  2. 9

    Roll Out the Naan

On a floured surface, take a dough ball and roll it out into a circle about 6-8 inches in diameter.

  3. 10

    Add Filling

Place a generous amount of the onion and chili mixture in the center of the rolled-out dough. Carefully fold the edges over the filling to seal it.

  4. 11

    Roll Again

Gently roll the filled dough ball again into a flat naan, ensuring the filling is evenly spread.

Cook the Naan

  1. 12

    Heat the Tawa or Griddle

Place a tawa or griddle on medium-high heat and let it get hot.

  2. 13

    Cook the Naan

Place the rolled naan on the hot tawa. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  3. 14

    Add Topping

If desired, brush the naan with melted butter or ghee and sprinkle with minced garlic while still hot.

Serve

  1. 15

    Garnish and Serve

Serve hot with your favorite curry or yogurt dip.
