Method

Preparing the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the skin off the potatoes.

  2. 2

    Cut the Potatoes

Cut the peeled potatoes into even sticks, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, to ensure they cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps achieve crispy fries.

Frying the Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This is crucial for getting crispy fries.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato sticks to the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

Seasoning and Serving

  1. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss gently to ensure even coating.

  2. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the fries immediately while hot and crispy. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!
