Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Fish

Clean the fish thoroughly and cut it into pieces. Marinate with salt and turmeric powder for at least 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coconut Paste

In a blender, combine the grated coconut with half a cup of water and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture to extract coconut milk and set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large pan, heat coconut oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.

  2. 4

    Add Spices

Stir in the ginger-garlic paste, curry leaves, and slit green chilies. Sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Add the chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, and remaining turmeric powder. Cook until the tomatoes soften.

  4. 6

    Cook the Fish

Gently place the marinated fish pieces into the pan, followed by the prepared coconut milk and water. Bring to a gentle simmer.

  5. 7

    Simmer

Cover the pan and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through and absorbs the flavors.

  6. 8

    Serve

Taste and adjust salt if necessary. Serve hot with rice or appam.
